Teranex will show Kodak’s Motion Compensated Grain Removal and Adaptive Sharpening at NAB 2007
NAB 2007 North Hall, Booth N-2531
Orlando, Florida. (April 11th, 2007) – Teranex, a leader in high performance video processing solutions for the broadcast and post-production industries, will be showing the results of its strategic alliance with Kodak at the upcoming National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show in Las Vegas. In September 2006 Teranex announced it had licensed proprietary film restoration and enhancement algorithms from the Entertainment Imaging Division of Eastman Kodak Company (EKC).
“Using our powerful VC300 Video Computer Platform, we’re now ready to show the first results of the long-term relationship between Teranex and Kodak in this technology demonstration,” said Jed Deame, Co-founder and General Manager of Teranex. The first Kodak technologies to be integrated into the Teranex platform are EKC’s proprietary Motion Compensated Grain Management, which allows for real-time manipulation of grain levels in scanned film, and Adaptive Sharpening, which preserves the detail of the image throughout processing. “At NAB we’ll be showing real-time 16mm source material processed through the VC300,” continued Deame. “This demonstration will show how Kodak’s algorithms combined with Teranex processing power can provide near 35mm performance from a more portable and affordable 16mm film stock. We see this technology as an enabler for low cost film production for HD contribution. Using the same processing technology, 35mm image quality can also be improved.”
“Teranex's 15 trillion operation/second VC300 Platform is perfect for integrating Kodak’s high-tech software algorithms,” said Bob Mastronardi, Segment Manager TV & New Product Development Image Capture for Kodak’s Entertainment Imaging Division. “We’ve been giving technology demonstrations on these algorithms for the past couple of years with great interest from production companies and broadcasters. Teranex has a wide base of customers in these markets and they will benefit from the ability to efficiently enhance film images, including 16mm and archival footage, for high-quality broadcast display in standard- and high-definition television formats.”
The Kodak HD Motion Comp Grain Removal software will be a software add-on for owners of Teranex VC300/VC600 P4k systems. As part of the imageRestore family of products, which include Noise, Dirt, and Scratch removal, it provides a complete solution for any telecine operation.
