imageConvert Product Family
- Unique de-interlacing and frame rate conversion techniques preserve full resolution of the input image
- Sophisticated film cadence detection modes find and fix broken 3:2 cadence for cleaner conversions
- Flexibility to provide the highest quality up, down, side, cross and standards conversions
The imageConvert application family provides a set of tools for converting from any DTV format to any other with uncompromising quality. imageConvert supports all standard and emerging video formats in a wide variety of line and frame rates. The programmable nature of the Video Computer platform enables Teranex to stay on the leading edge with new formats and processing algorithms for the most demanding content.
Teranex’s PixelMotion™ de-interlacing is often heralded as the finest de-interlacer available at any price. Since it is software based, it can handle the most demanding content. From broken 3:2 cadences to animation and vari-speed cadences to video titles on film backgrounds, PixelMotion preserves the full resolution of the input signal.
Optional temporal recursive noise reduction, in select up-conversions, removes random noise without softening the image and varies the processing aperture on a pixel-by-pixel basis to account for objects in motion.
imageConvert Features:
PixelMotion De-interlacing
PixelMoton De-interlacing of video originated material produces perfect progressive frames in preparation for further processing. The processing aperture is adjusted on a pixel-by-pixel basis, which preserves all of the detail of the original interlaced image and eliminates jaggies in the output image.
Automatic Per-Pixel Video/Film detection & processing
Rather than making frame level decisions for video vs. film processing, typically causing severe artifacts to occur in sequences such as information tickers and video titles over film backgrounds, Teranex processing algorithms make pixel-level decisions, thus precisely processing film pixels as film and video pixels as video.
Multi-Direction Diagonal Filter (MDDF)
A true 10-bit diagonal interpolator that removes any “jaggies” and/or stair-stepping artifacts from de-interlaced video sources without blurring the image
Advanced Film mode detection
Detects and preserves the full resolution of film-based material with a wide variety of film cadences including:
- 24 fps Film - 3:2
- 25/30 fps film - 2:2
- DVCPro 24fps video - 2:3:3:2, 2:2:2:4
- Vari-speed broadcasts - 3:2:3:2:2, etc.
- Animation - 5:5, 6:4
- Anime - 8:7
Cadence Correction
Converts a broken 3:2 sequence (due to edits, etc) into a consistent 3:2 sequence. This aids in compression, making it easier for the compressor to detect the 3:2 sequence.
Scene Change Detection
Preserves clean cuts between scenes. Upon detecting a cut, the temporal aperture is reduced from 4-fields to 2-fields for the first frame in the new scene. This prevents uncorrelated data from being used in the interpolation process at scene boundaries.
